Hi, I’m Lauren— a proud science nerd with a soft spot for soil, sustainability, and technology. After receiving a bachelor's degree in natural and social sciences from Ohio University, I fell in love with community and the ecosystems we build our lives on.
In the cross section of natural and social science, I found my true passion and decided to continue higher education where those two fields connected—environmental studies. I spent the entirety of my college career knee deep in data, discovery and a lot of dirt.
Now, my work sits at the intersection of science, tech, and sustainability, which is a fancy way of saying I spend a lot of time thinking about how we can use technology to stop doing the silly things we do to the planet. Whether it's teaching, building, or brainstorming, I always strive to create spaces where learning and loving the planet go hand in hand.
Hi, I’m Valerie—a lifelong learner and global explorer dedicated to the intersection of education and innovation. With a career spanning several decades - from serving as a professor of Russian linguistics to my time as senior director of science museum education - I’ve seen firsthand how curiosity transforms lives.
I believe passionate education drives progress, justice, and opportunity. At Motherboard Labs, we address the "fear and awe" of modern tech by helping communities build digital equity and economic sustainability while fiercely protecting the environment.
When I’m not diving into the latest tech or education trends, you’ll likely find me curled up with coffee and a book or exploring a metro park. I’m a hiker and animal lover with a deep passion for citizen science and dark sky exploration. Seeing the clarity of a star-filled night reminds me why protecting our planet's natural wonders is so vital.
